AFP’s Group Sales and Marketing Department has appointed Julie Leplus as Head of Sales for France.
AFP, in association with the European Fact-Checking Standards network (EFCSN) and other European stakeholders, announces the launch of a project to improve the capacities of European fact-checking organisations to tackle crisis situations. It is called FactCRICIS (European Fact-Checking Response in Climate Crises), co-funded by the European Union.
Today, AFP and other leading global news and publishing organizations signed onto an open letter to policymakers and industry leaders globally, laying out proposed principles for the regulated and responsible growth of generative AI models.
In addition to outlining consequences for the media industry and the public should the global regulatory landscape not evolve as quickly as AI innovation, the letter also voices support for the creation of an appropriate legal framework around the technology.• The disclosure of training sets used to create generative AI models.
Agence France-Presse (AFP) announces the appointment of Fleur Laurent as Managing Director of its subsidiary company FACTSTORY, an agency specialised in multimedia content production.
Fleur Laurent, 35, held various roles in business development and marketing within AFP, before joining FACTSTORY, where she became Deputy Managing Director in January this year.
After a three-year hiatus, the “Marai Photo Award” becomes the “Marai Photo Grant” in 2025. The award is organised by Agence France-Presse in honour of Shah Marai, former photo chief at AFP in Kabul. Shah Marai, who was an inspiration for Afghan photographers throughout his career, was killed in the line of duty at the age of 41 in a suicide attack on April 30, 2018 in Kabul.
The 44-year-old photojournalist was honoured for his work in Gaza, where, despite danger and fear of being targeted, he has worked tirelessly to document the first months of the war triggered by Hamas's attack on southern Israel on 7 October.
Agence France-Presse detected an attack on its IT systems on Friday, affecting part of its delivery service to clients. It is not yet known who carried out this attack or why.
